Intuitive Machines (NASDAQ: LUNR) is building momentum as one of the more ambitious publicly traded companies in the commercial space industry. The Houston-based company provides lunar access, spacecraft, communications infrastructure, and other space services for government and commercial customers.
Its latest results suggest the business is beginning to scale. Second-quarter 2026 revenue increased more than fourfold from the same period last year, while the company’s backlog reached a record $1.8 billion. Intuitive Machines also booked $920 million of awards during the quarter and another $300 million shortly afterward.
Growth Catalysts
The investment story is no longer centered exclusively on lunar landers. Intuitive Machines is expanding into a broader space infrastructure company.
Recent developments include:
- A contract worth more than $600 million for three commercial GEO satellites.
- A sixth NASA Commercial Lunar Payload Services mission.
- Growing national-security exposure, with that segment rising from 3% to 30% of revenue year over year in Q2.
- The acquisition of Goonhilly Earth Station and COMSAT, expanding the company’s space-to-ground communications capabilities.
- A recent NASA selection to provide spacecraft and mission solutions for the EAGLE-VSWIR Earth science mission.
Management currently expects 2026 revenue of $900 million to $1 billion and positive adjusted EBITDA for the full year.
Analyst Outlook
Wall Street remains constructive on LUNR following the latest results, although several analysts recently reduced their price targets.
Canaccord Genuity maintained a Buy rating with a $39 target, Cantor Fitzgerald remained bullish with a $32 target, and Stifel upgraded the stock to Buy with a $26 target.
The target reductions are worth noting because LUNR remains a volatile growth stock. However, continued Buy ratings suggest analysts still see meaningful upside if the company successfully converts its growing backlog into revenue and cash flow.
Investment Outlook
Intuitive Machines now has a stronger business story than simply being a speculative bet on future lunar missions. Its expanding backlog, NASA relationships, national-security contracts, satellite programs, and communications infrastructure are creating several potential growth engines.
Execution remains the major risk. Space programs can experience delays, costs can rise quickly, and LUNR shares can react sharply to mission results and contract announcements.
For that reason, I would favor price confirmation before making a new entry rather than chasing short-term momentum.
Outlook: Bullish, with disciplined entry and risk management.
If Intuitive Machines continues turning its record backlog into revenue while expanding beyond lunar missions, LUNR could remain one of the more compelling growth stories in the commercial space sector.
